New lens offers the health and convenience of a daily disposable modality at comparable cost to silicone hydrogel lenses
Mon, Mar 12, 2007
CooperVision today introduced Proclear® 1-Day daily disposable contact lenses, the latest addition to the PC Hydrogel™ family of lenses that offer excellent health and optimum comfort for all daily-wear patients. Proclear 1-Day lenses provide patients with the convenience of a daily disposable lens plus an unsurpassed level of comfort that lasts all day long, and are the only recent daily disposable to introduce an entirely new lens material to the modality.
The introduction of Proclear 1-Day is part of the CooperVision commitment to grow the daily disposable lens category in the United States because of the opportunity it offers eye care practitioners and their patients.
“An annual supply of daily disposable lenses is roughly equal to—and often less than—the cost of a two-week premium silicone hydrogel lens plus solutions. The patient can benefit from the health and convenience of a daily disposable lens without spending more,” said James Gardner, marketing manager, CooperVision. “In addition, the daily disposable modality has a patient compliance rate of 94 percent, the highest rate of any modality, so the patient returns for the next annual supply on the anniversary of the initial dispense, when you expect them to.
“This is a great opportunity for practitioners to move patients into a more convenient modality with outstanding health benefits and patient compliance,” he added.
Proclear 1-Day lenses are made with an aspheric optical design that blocks lens aberrations and theoretical corneal aberrations, resulting in crisp, clear vision. The optimized lens design and handling tint allow for easy lens insertion and removal, and the patented molded round edge reduces conjunctival interaction resulting in continuous wearing comfort.
In addition, Proclear 1-Day lenses feature a sphere power range of -0.25 to -10.00 in 0.50D steps above -6.00D; a center thickness of 0.09mm at -3.00D; a Dk/t of 36.6; 60 percent water content; an 8.7mm base curve; and a 14.2mm diameter.
“Proclear 1-Day contact lenses make end-of-day discomfort a thing of the past for daily-wear patients,” added Gardner. “By offering patients unmatched comfort, health, and performance, Proclear 1-Day also allows practitioners to enjoy all the benefits of upgrading patients to a premium daily disposable.”
As part of the PC Hydrogel family of contact lenses, Proclear 1-Day lenses are manufactured with CooperVision-patented PC Technology™, which keeps the lenses moist and comfortable throughout the day. Proclear 1-Day lenses are made with omafilcon A material, the only lens material with an FDA-cleared indication relating to the improvement of comfort for contact lens wearers who experience mild discomfort or symptoms relating to dryness during lens wear.
Proclear 1-Day lenses are also as healthy as they are comfortable because they are replaced every day, reducing the time for deposits like proteins and allergens to build up on the lenses.
Proclear 1-Day lenses are now available from CooperVision and its authorized distributors.
